Since becoming Sports Director in January 2006, Frank Sulkowski has been the source for local sports in the Coastal Empire and Lowcountry. Viewers call him “The Big Guy”, “Big Frank” and pretty much anything the opposite of small.
Frank can be seen during the week on WJCL News at 6 & 11 and WTGS News at Ten. The Big Guy is also the creator and host of several sports specials throughout the year, including “The Frenzy”, “Gridiron Live”, “First and Ten” and “Inside the Ropes”.
Frank has been named “Best Local Sports Anchor” by readers of Connect Savannah for five straight years (2009,2010,2011,2012 and 2013). He has also had the honor to host or speak at several events in the area, including: The Miss St. Patrick’s Day pageant, the Greater Savannah Sports Council Awards, the Best of Preps Banquet, the Armstrong Atlantic Sports banquet and the Savannah Scottish Games.
In the fall of 2010, Frank put his best foot forward as a celebrity dancers for “Dancing with the Savannah Stars”. The event raises funds of CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates).
His dedication to covering local athletes has gained him plenty of recognition. Frank was named “Outstanding Broadcasting Alumni” at Georgia Southern University. He was also recognized by Special Olympics Georgia for his outstanding coverage of Special Olympics.
Frank has spent a majority of his life right here in the Peach State covering every type of sport there is. Before coming to Savannah, Frank worked as a Sports Director and Sports Anchor in Albany, Macon, Atlanta and Statesboro.
Frank comes from a sporting family. He’s the oldest of three brothers. His two younger siblings currently coach high school football in Florida.
Frank was a two sport athlete at Tift County High School in Tifton, Ga. He played college football at East Tennessee State University. He graduated from Georgia Southern University in the Summer of 1997 with a degree in Broadcasting.
In December 2006, the Big Guy married his wife Lori in Forsyth Park here in Savannah. The couple welcomed their first child Abbie in November 2007. In May 2011 a second daughter, Aubrey joined the Sulkowski family.
In his free time, Frank enjoys playing golf, doing yard work and spending time with family and friends.
